From shame to certainty: KBC launches new tools against digital scams

Digital fraud affects not only your wallet, but also your self-confidence. At KBC, employees hear stories every day from customers who became victims of scams. What comes back every time? Not only the financial loss, but especially the feeling of shame. This "fraud shame" makes people withdraw, doubt themselves and sometimes even dare not seek help. That is why KBC is fully committed to technological innovation as well as a human approach. We protect customers not only with smart tools, but also with support when it matters most.
Social fraud: the biggest threat
The most common form of fraud today is social engineering. Scammers pose as bank employees and persuade customers to take action themselves - for example, by passing on codes or even handing over bank cards to someone who comes to their home. It sounds credible, it happens fast, and it overwhelms people. Even those who think it will never happen to them can become victims in a moment of stress.
"Check who's there": security at the touch of a button
From 7 July, customers can use the new "Check who's there" feature in KBC Mobile and KBC Touch to instantly check whether they are really speaking to a KBC employee. The check is done automatically, without the customer having to enter any data. One press of a button suffices - at exactly the right moment.
How does "Check who's there" work?
You are contacted by someone introducing themselves as a KBC employee or you call KBC yourself.
You check your call
In KBC Mobile, you have 3 options:
- Tap the Check who's there button on the login screen
- Go to 'Quick Pay' on the home page Ask Kate
In KBC Touch: click the Check who's there button at the top of your screen
You'll get one of these messages:
- You are currently on a call with KBC
- You are not currently on a call with KBC.
Always keep the codes of your payment card, app and card reader secret. KBC never asks you for these codes.
